Program Update

As our spring season at ROSS Leaders comes to an end, we’re extremely proud of the growth we’ve seen in our students. Our focus this semester was all about creating experiences that gave students space to explore their interests, get intentional about their goals, and gain practical knowledge that prepares them for what’s ahead.

Through our guest speaker series, Mitch Findley from Go Beyond challenged students to step outside their comfort zones, explore the outdoors, and consider how time in nature can support mental and physical well-being. Neal Krauss from DaySpring Bank closed out our financial literacy series with an engaging session on credit, helping students understand what it is, why it matters, and how it can shape their financial future.

Students also explored different career paths and reflected on their aspirations. Abdalla, who expressed an interest in aviation, had the opportunity to take flight instruction in an aircraft. Listening to students, implementing their ideas, and continuously elevating the ROSS Leaders experience remains central to our work.

Girls Night In

Our girls came together for a special “Girls Night,” and it became an evening that reminded us why these spaces matter so much. They opened up about their goals, talked through everyday challenges, and had real conversations about true friendship. Between the games, laughter, and food, a deeper sense of connection and belonging was built — and that’s what sisterhood is all about.

Alumni Visit Our Students in Phoenix, AZ

Out in Phoenix, we had a full-circle moment as college students came back to spend time with high schoolers at our partner school, Bella Vista Academy. The weekend included competition on the court, ATV rides, and meaningful conversations. Seeing our alumni return to share their experiences with the next group of students who look up to them is exactly what we’ve always envisioned.

Last Day Highlights

Our final day of program for the Omaha chapter was a special one. Seeing students grow more comfortable with volunteers over the weeks reminded us of the critical role they play in making our program a success. We closed the night by recognizing volunteers for their dedication and commitment to the students we serve.

A Message from Our CEO: Jacob Idra

Recently, a close friend asked me a question I’ve heard many times before: “What does success look like for ROSS?” In the past, my answer would usually point toward the future. But this time, I paused and reflected on what we’ve seen over the past few months, along with the lessons we’ve learned over the years. My response: success is exactly what we’re doing right now.

Success at ROSS Leaders is our students believing they can achieve whatever they set their minds to. It is the confidence they carry in who they are and who they are becoming, the trust we’re building in our community, and the way we come together because of the beauty, diversity, and perspective each culture brings to the table.

The best moments often occur when you least expect them: quick conversations after program, lessons learned in the huddle after a basketball run, or the quiet car ride home. We measure our success by how we show up in those moments. Over time, those are the moments our students will carry throughout their lives.

This past quarter has been nothing short of inspiring. From the first moments spent with students, it became clear that this program is about so much more than activities — it’s about connection. Through thoughtfully planned activities and events, we’ve watched confidence grow, voices become stronger, and excitement to participate become contagious. Our dedicated staff, compassionate volunteers, and the entire ROSS community create the space where students feel supported, encouraged, and valued.

A Message from Our CED: Boum Dobuol

Serving as the Community Engagement Director has been a deeply meaningful experience. Each day brings opportunities to connect, collaborate, and build relationships with individuals and organizations who share a common goal: supporting and uplifting our youth. What has left the greatest impression is witnessing the steady, week-by-week growth of the students we serve. Through our programming, students are stepping into their voices, becoming more engaged in classrooms, and taking greater ownership of their responsibilities.
